Science

At Wimboldsley, we strive to give our pupils the knowledge and abilities they need to excel in the field of science!

We provide a science curriculum that uses the disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics to inspire students' interest, passion, and comprehension of the world around them. Additionally, through good pedagogy and vocabulary-rich teaching, the curriculum assures skill development and cumulative learning while enhancing and supporting the children's metacognitive learning processes. In order to ensure conceptual knowledge and ensure that subject-specific language is applied appropriately and precisely, it is taught and built upon over the primary phase . Since we are aware that our children learn best through inquiry-based learning, Wimboldsley's science curriculum has been designed to give them hands-on science experiences from the very beginning. This enables independent research and inquiry, which in turn promotes the development of communication.

Every year, our school participates in British Science Week to spread knowledge, spark interest, and celebrate STEM across the school community.

VICKY WHISTON

I have been working as a Primary school teacher for over 15 years, with experience in different schools… right from my NQT year I have always been involved in Science leadership in each of my Primary settings.

I am an Early Years leader with passion for ensuring firm foundations are built from EYFS for all subjects, but this is particularly important for Science. I have recently enrolled to complete NPQ in Early Years Leadership and also hold national SENCO qualification; I believe that there is a little scientist in all of us and strive to achieve inclusive education for all.

I love leading this core subject and particularly enjoy supporting my colleagues by building links with the local community to provide help from scientists and specialists in our local area.

My favourite time of year is March when we celebrate Science week at WImboldsley. I work hard with my colleagues to make this event fun every year to ignite a passion for science and STEM in our pupils (and staff too!). I am a member of the STEM community and use this platform to support our Science CPD, learning and connections in school.
