Geography
At Wimboldsley we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, its interconnectedness and their place in it. The geography curriculum at Wimboldsley enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Geography is, by nature, a subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills.
CLAIRE HAZELDINE
I have been teaching at Wimboldsley for over 20 years and have led Geography at Wimboldsley at various points throughout this time, most recently as part of the Federation Team over the last few years . Having a lifelong love of Geography, from growing up exploring the world around me with my father who was a Geography Teacher to obtaining a degree in Geography many years ago, I have continued to develop my passion for teaching Geography in the Primary Curriculum, and continued my professional development with training and following various blogs. It is lovely to move around the school and see the children’s enthusiasm for their Geographical learning, they are so inquisitive about the world around them.
Our Geography curriculum is clearly mapped across each year group to ensure progression of skills, whilst delivering knowledge that is built upon from previous learning. Clear and concise end Points are planned carefully in order for the children to become capable and enthusiastic geographers.
