Characteristics of Effective Learning

The Characteristics of Effective Learning are the ways in which each child learns.

Playing and exploring – engagement

Finding out and exploring

Playing with what they know

Being willing to ‘have a go’

Active learning – motivation

Being involved and concentrating

Keeping trying

Enjoying achieving what they set out to do

Creating and thinking critically – thinking

Having their own ideas

Making links

Choosing ways to do things

Together, they underpin learning and development across all areas and support children to be effective and motivated learners.

We use the Characteristics of Effective Learning to plan the classroom environment and activities in order to extend the children’s learning through play. We share these Characteristics with parents in our Learning Journey and end of year reports.
